The challenge:

This is one of those situations where all of the research had been done before I walked into the project. A children’s hospital had a Parent Advisory Board who worked with the print marketing team a few years before to research, gather relevant information, and put together a hospital book that gives incoming parents and families a guide of services, anecdotal advice, tips for communicating with differing types of providers, and tons of other helpful tools. The issue was that it was expensive to give every incoming family this binder, and it was a few years outdated.

The solution:

It was decided that we’d take the hospital binder that had been developed a few years prior, and fold it into a new mobile app.

My role:

I worked with the Executive Director for Women and Children's Services to discuss solutions (which included a mobile app) and the goals of the program. In addition to the research and strategy that went into the original binder, she had more recent insights into the needs of the patients, parents, and advisory boards. With these insights we started to wireframe out the additional functionality the app would feature.

Tools used:

Adobe CC (UI) and MobileSmith (Prototype, testing, and app build)
